i lost the future

i mortgaged the future

and i lost

how can i tell my family

what it cost

our home is gone

the factory too is gone

the dollar’s gone through the roof

that i can’t pay the workers anymore

is proof

enough that i have lost

completely

everyday i see the lawyers

they tell me they will buy me time

to that i will lose in the end i am resigned

and they invoice me

again

time will not suffice me

for i fear the end may come

when i am not here

this burden will be passed on to my son

who will only then realise what i have done
