Top 10 Junoon Songs & Why

Mitti – from Parvaaz

Stunning, new found maturity. Excellent intro and the first line is a killer. Not something you would expect from Junoon. An existential masterpiece.

Heer – from Junoon

Stairway to Heaven for the Pakistani guitar players. Iffy intro, however the riff is killer and tops in its simplicity. The wild solo in the end is excellent and Salman looks so good in the video. Pity it was all downhill for him visually in videos thereafter.

Khwaab – from Junoon

Nusrat sang it and butchers the language (the word is ‘Khaab’ not ‘Khuwaab’) but what a song. Heartbreaking ballad and the cover that launched a million bands. Bet Ali hates the fact that this is most people’s favorite song and is the one song that he did not sing on.

Saeen – from Inquilab

Excellent guitar riff. Once again basic and a work of genius. This song has a masterful groove and remains

Neend Aati Nahin – from Junoon

Sigh ! To be young again.

Sajna - from Parvaaz

GASP ! Ali Azmat outdoes Salman. Killer music and fab song. Proof positive that Ali’s solo album is really worth looking forward to.

Rangon Mein Khoya – from Junoon

Only because the local band noori does a devastating version of this song. Don’t much care for the Junoon version though.

Garaj BarasDaur-e-Junoon

Shows that there is life still in the old dog. Another killer recent Ali Azmat track.

Yaar BinaAzadi

Ali looks good in the video. And they were at their peak during this time. Great song, more memorable for the memories attached to it than anyting.

Bulleya – from Parvaaz

The song sucks. Only like it because of the fab lyrics and the band has the good taste to choose Baba Bulley Shah’s kalam.

OUTTAKE:

Chori Chori Aaja – the first album

A guilty pleasure.
